Sunderland 0-4 Aston Villa – Premier League – 14th March 2015

Tim Sherwood’s revitalised Villans secured a fantastic win at the Stadium of Light on Saturday after an incredible, goal-filled first-half.

The home side simply couldn’t live with Villa in the first period, with both Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor (on his 300 PL appearance) bagging a brace. The Black Cats’ capitulation saw a large number of home fans leave even before the first 45 minutes were up as the atmosphere in the ground soured.

The horror show for Sunderland was no better highlighted by the fact the hosts started the side with just 10 men on the pitch, with a limping Seb Larsson making his way onto the pitch a few minutes after the re-start. While Villa failed to add to their first-half tally in the second 45, their positive play was a huge improvement on the dour brand of football produced under Paul Lambert.

Villa move three points clear of the drop zone, after leapfrogging Sunderland who are now just a point clear of danger.
