Aston Villa secured a precious victory at home to Cardiff City on Tuesday night, with rapscallion playmaker Jack Grealish scoring a magnificent winner late on.

Prior to the game, Neil Warnock’s Cardiff sat in the automatic promotion places, with Villa seven points back in fourth spot.

The tense clash at Villa Park looked headed for stalemate until, after a sweeping freekick had been partly cleared on 85 minutes, Grealish unleashed a sumptuous first time volley from outside the box which rocketed into the back of the Bluebirds’ net.

Quite a strike from a gifted player who is just now starting to fulfil that sparking potential of his.

Who knows, maybe one day we will see him line out for England after all?

The 1-0 win saw Cardiff bumped down into third after being leapfrogged into second place by Fulham, who beat Reading 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

Steve Bruce’s Villans stay fourth, five points off the automatic promotion places.

Wolves may be as good as up, but the rest of the Championship promotion tangle looks like it’s going to the wire!
