Jack Grealish continued his run of good form on Saturday afternoon as Aston Villa well and truly stuffed play-off-chasing rivals Derby County.

Winless in five coming into the game, Villa arrested their mini-slump in emphatic fashion thanks to four unanswered first-half goals at Villa Park.

Conor Hourihane scored twice either side of a Tammy Abraham goal to put Villa 3-0 up before Grealish added the fourth with pretty much the final act of the opening 45 minutes.

After a long corner was slung to the outer realms of the penalty box, the 23-year-old connected with a booming volley that flew past Scott Carson before the Derby ‘keeper could even flinch…

Whoosh. Should Villa once again fail to go up this season, it’s almost certain that a Premier League side will finally take the plunge on Grealish come the summer. After being a little lightweight up unto this point, he’s really starting to prove his mettle this campaign.

The result moves Villa to within three points of Derby, who themselves are three points outside the top six and on a four-match losing streak, having failed to score a single goal in their last three league outings.
