What if Aston Villa were a ‘two-man team’?

Much talk already this season about Liverpool being a “two-man team”, ie. Steven Gerrard and Nando Torres.

With that in mind, I thought it’d be fun (hold that thought) to look at each Premier League club and apply the same thinking…

We did Arsenal last week, with most of you agreeing that it’s hard to look past Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie.

Today it’s the turn of Aston Villa.

So, relax, take off your clothes, warm up with some rainbow rhythms. Whatever – clear your mind…

Now I want you to think of Villa as a two-man team (like Liverpool)… hold that thought…

Which two players do you see?

This is a tough one and no mistake, as Villa have a very balanced squad. But I’m gonna go for Ashley Young and James Milner.

Who gets your vote?

At the moment, you could make an argument for Dunne and Collins, but I’m going to go with Young and Agbonlahor. I think Gabby’s got to me in there because if Villa lose Young, they’ve got Milner, but if they lose Gabby, they’re stuffed up front.

I think that it would be hard to leave Friedel out, so I would go with Friedel and Milner. Although, based on pure talent and potential, it could easily be Gabby and Ashley.

  3. Brian says:

Dunne and Collins without a doubt. Anyone who was at Villa Park on the opening day against Wigan will understand why.

  4. Philando Torres says:

    Friedel and Carew.

  5. Chringle says:

Mount Carew-vius and Richard ‘Bootyquake’ Dunne.

  6. NeddyB says:

Barry & Laursen? no seriously… Gabby & Ashley. UTV!!

  7. Ricky VII says:

Agbonlahor is their goal machine, he should be named on a one-man list, never mind a two-man one

  8. Doug4ever says:

At the moment Milner and Collins

  9. villa4life says:

got to be collins and agbonlahor,
its been a touch call though, dunne has been outstanding and so has warnock they have transformed this team but collins is the buy of the season and aggy just for his goal in the derby with the blue noses

I think people are seriously underestimating Petrov’s role in the team. He is our only solid CM and without him we would be seriously weakened both in his passing and his ability to read the game and break up play. He is the only player I think we would seriously struggle without. Saying that, with the current struggle for goals I’d hate to see us without Gabby as well.

  11. HP says:

    Dunnzey and Young

  12. Villa 4 Ever says:

I love how everyone is saying something totally different to the next person which is very good for Villa, imagine Villa spending 20m on one superstar, forget about challenging the top 4 we would be in the top 4.

My vote goes to Agbonlahor purely because if we don’t play him don’t expect goals from Heskey and Carew isn’t on a goal trail:

My next vote has to go to Collins, he looks fantastic and i believe we have now replaced Laursen, the man puts 100% in every tackle and isn’t bad in the air either !!

I would say gabby and young…without a doubt.
