73690038.jpgDavid Bentley is apparently paying the price for refusing to play in the recent U-21 European Championships by being omitted from Steve McLaren’s England squad to face Germany next week.
Blackburn manager, Mark Hughes confirmed that he spoke to the England manager regarding the club’s and Bentley’s decision to get some rest this summer by snubbing England’s U-21s. “Steve McLaren said that was part of it, there was a price to pay and he said David has paid it this time,” he said.
It’s a shame since Bentley seems to have proved he made the right decision with some sparkling performances already down the wing this season, especially against MyPa 47 last night. And, with Becks still not fully fit, it would have been an ideal time to give him some experience?
Snubbing England didn’t stop McLaren from begging Jamie Carragher to return, so is he right to ignore Bentley?

    you should do the opposite…

    Bentley > SWP
    Simple as.

why are we getting excited about David Bentley again. an arguably average winger cannot be compared to arguably one of the best CB’s in the world.

Calling Bentley an average winger, and Carragher one of the best centre-backs in the World, makes your opinion void, and frankly laughable.

You watch, bentley’s going to come into his own this season and will be back in the England team soon

I personally can’t wait to see the arse of McClaren leaving the F.A doors for the last time so any news like this always brings a smile with it.
Who knows, we might finally get a competent manager for the next trophy ;)

A classic case of biting his nose off to spite his face! Bentley is one of the most promising young players in the country and should get his England call-up asap! The quality of his crossing is excellent, he’s quick and he scores goals!!

  8. Mark H says:

Being an English player is an honour, not a right…Selecting Bentley now justifies what he did at the U-21.
Eventually you need to forgive it and move on, but let him cool his heels a few selections…and eventually if he’s worthy, let him play.

Bentley is quality and eventually he will get a call-up whether its McClaren or hopefully someone else. He does deserve some sort of penalty for snubbing the u21s. I think he is a bit more than an ‘average’ winger but I agree that Carragher’s snub is a mistake surely when he is dropped in favor of LK. Bentley certainly is a bit of a mercurial talent but if he has an ego it has to be put in check. We’ve enough of those!

Bentley is a brash young player. His undisciplined style is a red card waiting to happen. Until he gains maturity he is not a candidate for the full England shirt!!!
