The news this morning is that Fabrice Muamba is finally set to leave the intensive care ward at the London Chest Hospital to be transferred to a private hospital in Cheshire to continue his recovery for a couple of days before being allowed to return home for the first time since he suffered a heart attack on the pitch at White Hart Lane a month ago.

Muamba has been fitted with an ‘implantable cardioverter defibrillator’ – or ‘BOLTON ACE HAS ZAPPER FITTED’ as The Sun so succinctly put it – which is designed to release an electrical charge to stimulate his heart should he suffer any problems in the future.

As a mark of his gratitude to all the staff at the Chest Hospital for helping save his life and support him through his convalescence, Muamba and his family presented them with a huge 16-inch cake – decked out in Bolton colours…
