Word on the wire is that Bolton Wanderers are on the cusp of being taken over by a consortium spearheaded by a couple of local heroes.
According to the Daily Star‘s exclusive report, Bolton-born boxer Amir Khan and former Trotters striker Dean Holdsworth have joined forces and cobbled together £15million which they are now close to using to buy out the Championship club.
Current Bolton chairman Phil Gartside is willing to pay off the struggling Championship club’s debts and sell his controlling stake as he continues to struggle with ill health.
Under the terms of the proposed takeover, Holdsworth (who scored 39 goals in 158 appearances for Bolton between 1997-2003) would replace Gartside as chairman, while Khan would be contractually obliged to stage his future fights at the Macron Stadium.
Well, hands up who saw this one coming then…
