As his imminent departure draws ever nearer, Borussia Dortmund fans are preparing to send Jurgen Klopp off in the manner befitting a man who, if only fleetingly, brought the good times back to German football’s perennial bridesmaids.

Indeed, the Dortmund-based TWR carpet laundry company are keen to show their appreciation to Klopp in the only way they know how – by presenting the outgoing coach with a specially commissioned ‘caricature carpet’ woven in black and yellow.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper, the carpet was first commissioned at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, long before Klopp announced he was leaving BVB – meaning the rug has taken on extra significance over the course of the club’s tumultuous campaign.

“We are all huge football fans here in the company, and thought this carpet would be a stunning idea. When it was announced that Klopp will leave Dortmund, we were all sad,” said TWR boss Zafer Belimkan.

The Klopp carpet took six months to manufacture out in Nepal, with word of its completion coming just one month after Klopp announced his resignation.

Still, Belinkam was pleased with the results. “That’s a good likeness of him,” he told RN.

Belinkam now hopes he’ll be able to present the caricature carpet to Klopp at Dortmund’s training ground this week so he can wish the coach farewell in person and also thank Klopp for “what he has done at BVB.”

However, Belinkam also has a contingency plan should Klopp feel that having a two-metre-long yellow rug with his own face on it might clash with the rest of his home furnishings, adding that if the BVB boss doesn’t want it he’d like him to sign it so TWR can auction it off for a children’s cancer charity.

How nice.
