Fortuna Dusseldorf took the unusual step of punishing one of their own players for making sexist comments by forcing him to referee an all-girl’s game.
Shortly after receiving a second booking during a recent game against FSV Frankfurt, Kerem Demirbay had something manly to say to female referee Bibi Steinhaus as he trudged off the match.
According to the Telegraph, the German U21 midfielder reportedly told Steinhaus that women have no place in men’s football. Classy.
As such, he’s now facing a maximum five-game ban as and when the DFB hand down their punishment. This added to the fine of two week’s wages he’s already received from Fortuna.
Demirbay telephoned Steinhaus after the match to apologise and also issued a full and frank public apology on social media.
However, his club weren’t finished there. Indeed, Fortuna also made sure Demirbay paid full penance for his sins against equality by forcing him to go along and referee a local all-girl’s game.
You’ll be glad to learn that he looked truly overjoyed throughout…
