A consummate first-leg victory and a couple of first-half goals from Ivica Olic saw Bayern Munich comfortably sweep Marseille under the rug at the Allianz Arena last night, putting the Germans to within a semi-final’s width (against Real Madrid in all probability) of reaching the Champions League final on their home soil come 19th May.

Looks like Mandanda had a good game. Decent keeper who would do well at Tottenham next season perhaps?

  2. Mr. Sparkle says:

Seems like French football is seriously lacking in the continent.

@ Mr. Sparkle considering that only 1 french team has ever won the European Cup and only did it once, the same as the Scottish league for gods sake. So called much weaker leagues have more European hardware than the French league.

  4. Drama says:

That may be Mr. Sparkle but I think they are still getting better. France has long been a source of good footballers but the clubs haven’t had any staying power.

They still have a ways to go, and they could easily screw it up, but I think they are getting closer to having a strong club team somewhere in France, and that excludes PSG who appear somewhat willing to simply buy it.

The real question is if a French club can manage some success, will the rest of Ligue 1 catch up or will that club be forced to sell?

  5. dc says:

exactly, the problem is that french talent is fantastic but they cant keep the players together for multiple seasons. look at Lille last year: won the title, within the next year lost gervinho, cabaye, their top scorer moussa sow, and will likely lose their best player eden hazard this summer.

PSG won’t amount to anything unless the quality of the league increases. only burnt out players will go there for money. its the same case as anzhi in russia– just cause they have money doesnt mean that theyre gonna end up at the top of the champions league when their home league is garbage
