Malmo goalkeeper Johan Wiland has accused Celtic players of acting like “pigs” and “children” after the Champions League play-off first leg between the two sides at Celtic Park on Wednesday evening.

Celtic eventually won the game 3-2 but Jo Inge Berget’s 94th-minute consolation gave Malmo two away goals and hope of being able to overturn the scoreline in the second leg in Sweden next week.

However, ‘keeper Wiland was unimpressed by the home team’s conduct, claiming that Celtic were more interested in talking than playing football.

Speaking to Kvällsposten after the game, the Malmo stopper complained:

They are pigs, all of them, that’s the way it is. You just have to try to stay cool and do what we have to do on the pitch.

Leigh Griffiths [who scored twice on the night], well, I don’t know what to say, he behaved like a child, tugging shirts all the time.

Malmo defender Rasmus Bengtsson duly echoed his goalie’s sentiments:

There were some players who talked a lot. You probably know who I mean.

They have a captain [Scott Brown] and a few others who like to talk. But that’s the way it is at this level.

One player who came on [Nadir Ciftci] was not particularly nice. The first thing he wanted to do when he came on was to talk. He had more focus on that than his performance.

And I don’t think it was to their advantage that they were running around focusing on other things.

Now come on, we won’t have a bad word said about Scott Brown. The man’s an angel.
