Just 10 minutes after Luis Suarez had put Barcelona 1-0 up with a headed tap-in, Roma full-back Alessandro Florenzi went and levelled proceedings by humping in an absolute monster from 60-odd yards…

Wallop!

Why a ‘cult hero’ you ask? Well, those with sharp memories may recall that Florenzi is the bloke who endeared himself to football fans the world over last season when he celebrated his goal against Cagliari by leaping into the stands to celebrate with his 80-year-old nonna

Well worth the yellow card.

  1. Jarren says:

These long range efforts always get massive exposure, and I do accept it takes some degree of accuracy to pull them off, but they’re all just hoof-and-hopes at the end of the day.

Give me a quality bicycle kick, a la Sinclair or Rooney / Benteke any day of the week.

  2. Arman says:

@Jarren, not sure you can say that about this goal, plenty of skill went into that. He’s running pretty fast by the edge and he’s getting closed down by a defender, to hit it at that speed with that much going on around you and still be able to beat the keeper is a feat. When Beckham did the same he was practically standing.

Isn’t that true of all kicks?

  4. Dogga says:

    Shut up, Jarren!
