Atletico Madrid put themselves firmly in control of their Last 16 tie with Bayer Leverkusen after enjoying an impressive 4-2 victory away at the BayArena On Tuesday night.

Goal of the game came courtesy of Spanish midfielder Saúl Ñíguez, who produced a magnificent solo effort to open the scoring on 17 minutes.

Picking up the ball on the right flank, Ñíguez cut inside onto his left foot before producing an outstanding curling effort which gave Bayer ‘keeper Bernd Leno no chance at all…

What a fabulous strike and one a little bit reminiscent of his wonder-goal against Bayern Munich in last season’s semi-final…

Niguel’s team-mate Antoine Griezmann would make it 2-0 on 25 minutes. However, soon after the restart, German international Karim Bellarabi would get one back for Leverkusen.

A Kevin Gameiro goal put Atletico back in the driving seat on 58 minutes, only for an own-goal from former Man City defender Stefan Savic to make it 3-2.

However, late on, Atletico legend Fernando Torres, on as a sub, headed home a fourth for the La Liga giants to give them a healthy 4-2 lead going into the return leg in Germany.

With Man City beating Monaco 5-3, it was quite a night for goals in the Champions League!
