While Barcelona were making history at the Nou Camp, Borussia Dortmund were cruising into the quarter-finals courtesy of a 4-0 hammering of Benfica at the Westfalenstadion, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netting a hat-trick.
Dortmund were 1-0 down from the first leg but the German giants got themselves level in the tie after just four minutes, with Aubameyang heading home at the far post.
Benfica pushed for an equaliser on the night, with Franco Cervi going close on more than one occasion.
However, after the break, the hosts went ahead via teen attacker Christian Pulisic, who deftly chipped goalkeeper Ederson.
Two minutes later, Dortmund were at it again, this time with Aubameyang firing home from a Marcel Schmelzer centre.
Gabon star Aubameyang completed his hat-trick on 85 minutes, converting a fine pass from Erik Durm.
Courtesy of their 4-1 aggregate victory, Thomas Tuchel’s side ease into the last eight for the first time since 2014.
Benfica, on the other hand, can now focus on defending their lead at the top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
