Lyon retained the Women’s Champions League title on Thursday night, after a dramatic 7-6 penalty shootout win against PSG in Cardiff.

After a tense, goalless 120 minutes of action, it came to the dreaded penalty shootout to settle the game.

With both PSG’s Grace Geyoro and Lyon’s Eugenie Le Sommer missing their spot-kicks, and the score at 6-6, it would come down to the goalkeepers to settle the tie.

PSG ‘keeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek came forward to take her penalty but the 26-year-old Pole would fire her effort  wide of the post.

That left the task of converting the potentially winning penalty to Lyon’s ‘keeper, Sarah Bouhaddi, who calmly stroked home to win the title again for Lyon.

Here’s the full shoot-out…

What drama!

The victory, played in front of an impressive crowd of 22,433, sees Lyon win the Champions League for the second year in a row.

The win also gave the French giants a second straight treble, with the French league and League Cup already in the bag.

It would be rather fantastic if the men’s final on Saturday ends in such drama, with Gigi Buffon converting the winning penalty after Keylor Navas fluffs his lines (or vice-versa!).
