RB Leipzig slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Besiktas in the nascent German club’s first ever away Champions League fixture.
The visitors were perturbed from the off by the cacophonous atmosphere inside the Vodafone Arena, which was directly responsible for Leipzig losing star forward Timo Werner with just half-an-hour played.
Indeed, according to the Telegraph, Werner’s night came to a premature end when he left the pitch with chronic “hearing issues” brought on by the boisterous home supporters..

Werner apparently tried wearing ear plugs to muffled the sound, but it soon became too much for the 21-year-old to cope with.
Speaking after the match, Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl admitted that his team were rattled by the Turkish side’s famously intense 12th man:
It is impossible to prepare your team for an atmosphere like this. There was a deafening noise, at the start of the game we were a bit affected.
We were not good in the first 20 minutes at all. But it was a lesson for all of us. I saw who I can count on in times like these. This is a lesson for us to learn and we keep learning.
Hooked off for sensitive hearing. We truly have heard it all now.
