Barcelona benefited from two own-goals at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night, as the Catalan giants waltzed to a 4-1 win against Roma, a result which all but seals their place in the semi-finals.

Veteran anchorman Daniele de Rossi had the unfortunate honour of opening the scoring for Barca just before the break, courtesy of a quite incredible strike, rifled home from just inside the box as Lionel Messi hovered in close proximity.

In the second period, the hosts were given yet another helping hand from their hosts, with Kostas Manolas this time putting through his own goal to put the Spaniards 2-0 up.

Roma created a number of decent chances but were always second best against a commanding Barca side who always looked dangerous.

Ernesto Valverde’s side would eventually actually score a goal themselves just before the hour-mark, with Gerard Pique tapping in from close range.

Ex-Man City striker Edin Dzeko then pulled one back for Roma on 80 minutes, though the damage had long been done.

The chasm between the sides then re-widened to three goals soon after when Luis Suarez finally got off the mark in the Champions League this season to seal a convincing win for the Spaniards.

The results sees Barca, already headed for the La Liga title and into the final of the Copa Del Rey, on course for the treble.

It also saw Own Goal strengthen his position as Barca’s second highest goalscorer (5) in Europe this season, just one goal behind Messi.

As for the Giallorossi, they’ll have to produce the performance of their lives at the Stadio Olimpico if they are to stay in the competition.

Stranger things have happened, but the sensible money is on the blaugrana.

Chris, you definitely need to stay gender neutral! How do you know Own Goal is a he? I am disappointed. My mapa told me it was not ok to just assume Own Goal was male. Bigotry
