Seeing as though they’re sponsoring this year’s competition, this here is Heineken’s new ‘Legendary Football’ Champions League viral campaign starring Clarence Seedorf, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Patrick Vieira, Gigi Buffon and Rene Adler – and if any of it makes sense to you then you truly are a better man than I.

Click through to watch the vignettes in sequence (you’ll see what I mean)…

I’m searching for that deeper meaning but so far I’m stuck on ‘five old duffers farting about in an opera house’.

there’s a fine line between “epic” and “trying too hard” , I think heineken just crossed it .

to me, it combined the best parts of modern advertising with the worst parts. it was interesting, a pretty cool idea, but totally misses a few marks in comedy and kitsch. still, when you’re here in the states watching some of the other commercials during soccer matches (i.e., ads for telephone calling services and soccer apparel websites) this would be welcome.

also, the people who comment ABOUT sex god are just as annoying as sex god itself. is it really that much of an issue? scroll past it if you must, it takes a second to skim, and by commenting on it you feed the fire that you seem to want to put out. btw, sex god, i still think it’s funny, if only because it’s dumb. but now, i will never speak about this again, and i hope no one else will (at least those who seem to hate you so virulently).

It’s rather bizarre and surreal, but I think the obvious point is here that they’re trying to show how football can be just as classy as the Opera, even if you drink a beer from the bottle…
