It has come to light following a few brief Twitter exchanges this afternoon that not only is Russell Crowe seriously considering buying Leeds United but that he is also apparently one of the fans’ preferred candidates.
Crowe is supposedly a boyhood Leeds fan after falling in love with Don Revie’s all-conquering side of the 1970s while watching Match of the Day while growing up in Australia.
He is also no stranger to running sports teams, currently serving as co-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, an Australian rugby league outfit.
Responding to a message from a desperate Leeds fan on Twitter imploring him to buy the Championship side, Crowe in turn asked his 1.67 million followers “Anybody else think this is a good idea?”
“@Samwild90: @russellcrowe please buy leeds. In need of help!!” Anybody else think this is a good idea?

Crowe’s query was met with a wave of positive response from Leeds fans, who have obviously all lost the plot after enduring years upon years of their club being run like a complete circus.
Indeed, Crowe even received the public backing of several Leeds supporters’ groups, including the Leeds Fans LLP, who welcomed Crowe’s interest and even told him that they are seeking a “fan voice on the board” and that they “would love to have” him involved at Elland Road.
This is what it’s come to, has it? Madness gone mad.
Anyway, it’s be remiss of us to bring Russell Crowe up without mentioning his finest work to date…
