This was even more one-sided than the scoreline suggests. On current form, I don’t see how any team but Chelsea can win the league – they overpowered Arsenal with embarrassing ease, so much so that I feel obloged to dust off the ‘men vs boys’ cliché. Even the loss of Didier Drogba and Michael Essien to the African Cup of Nations in January won’t halt Carlo Ancelotti’s juggernaut.

I don’t think it was as bad as you’re suggesting. Arsenal had a good bit of possession and went forward–even came close a few times. Surely they were outplayed but I really think that saying even the “men amongst boys” cliche isn’t cutting it is a bit rich. That said Chelsea are on a mission and no one is stopping them. As I wrote that a bit of vomit came up.

I think that the only thing that seperated the sides was 1 quality centre forward, 2 terrible pieces of defending, and 1 poorly goal-kept free kick.

Had Arsenal’s centre backs and goalie played to the standard they would expect of themselves, and had Van Persie been playing, this game would have been very, very different I think.

Simon I wish I could agree with you. Even with RVP I don’t see it happening. We (Arsenal) simply can’t compete with how incredible their defense is and their freak forward. Even by your estimation the “only thing” separating these two teams is a quarter of the team. We’re 75% of Chelsea at this point. Still good enough for 3rd I think though.

Do Arsenal players get fined if they shoot from outside the 6 yard box?
