Newcastle United 2-1 Chelsea – Premier League – 6th December 2014

Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end at St. James’ Park on Saturday, with a brace from Papiss Cissé shooting down the league leaders.

After a first-half in which the Blues struggled to break down a well-organised Newcastle side, the goal came courtesy of Senegal striker Cissé, who fired home from close range on 57 and 78 minutes. In between those goals, Eden Hazard hit the frame of the goal while goalkeeper  Jak Alnwick, on as a half-time sub for Rob Elliot worked hard to keep the west Londoners at bay. Sub Didier Drogba did get the visitors back into the game late on, with that goal soon after Steven Taylor had been sent off for the Magpies. However, the hosts hung on to extinguish any hopes of an ‘Invincible’ season for the Blues.

While Chelsea stay top, despite the defeat, Newcastle go seventh.
