Champions Chelsea got their 2015/16 campaign off to a rather unsatisfying start, after drawing 2-2 at home to Swansea.
The Blues took the lead on 23 minutes, with Oscar netting with a free-kick into the box which evaded Lukasz Fabianski in the Swansea goal.
Soon after, Garry Monk’s side were back on level terms, with new-signing Andre Ayew firing home after Bafetimbi Gomis’ header had been saved by Thibaut Courtois.
However, just a minute later the Champions regained the lead when Willian’s cross was deflected into the Swans’ goal by Federico Fernandez.
There was still plenty of life left in the game and when Gomis was felled by Courtois in the Chelsea box, the visitors were given a chance to equalise.
With Courtois shown the red card for the last-man challenge, it was up to new-signing Asmir Begovic to face Gomis. However, the French striker converted the spot-kick to make it 2-2.
After that both sides had chances to win the game, with Jefferson Montero a constant thron in Chelsea’s side and Eden Hazard going close.
However, ultimately Jose Mourinho would have to settle for a point, with Garry Monk no doubt the happier of the two bosses at the final whistle.
