We were just sat there thinking that all the row over Chelsea club doctor Eva Carneiro needed was the views of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and then bingo!

Jose Mourinho has behaved badly, comparing Dr Carneiro to a secretary and banishing her from the bench for the match away to Manchester City on Sunday.

Her sole offence was to have raced onto the pitch to treat a stricken Eden Hazard (Jose said he was “tired”) against his wishes during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

So. Here’s Wenger fielding a question on the fracas from the Press pack:

I’m not greatly interested about what is going on at Chelsea. It is a problem inside the club that if you are not united it is more difficult. It is the trust and unity that makes the strength.

Ping!

The rules are quite clear that when the referee gives an indication that the medical [staff] can come on they come on. After that what happens specifically in the situation I don’t know but the rules are quite clear. It is the referee who makes the decision.

Slap!

Cue Wenger’s side-kick, midfielder Mikel Arteta:

Normally a manager is a man who likes to blame others, but Arsene Wenger never does that, even when there might be a reason for it.

The way he behaved and the way he defended the club when we were really under pressure is something I admire. We all owe him.

Unity they name is Arsenal.

A bit hyperbolic, this headline. Wenger was asked about it — he didn’t bring it up. Responded diplomatically — who would NOT say that rifts in organizational structure are a problem?

  2. Geraldo says:

@Neil #2 – he could have just replied “no comment”. That would have been diplomatic. But of course that’s not in Arsene’s nature is it? I await the reaction from Gooners the next time a manager of another club comments on something that happens down at the New Library…

@Geraldo. Why reply no comment? Wenger is right. Plus he didn’t mention Chelsea, he didn’t mention JM. Also why await a reaction from Gooners to comments made about them when they have not made comments about Chelsea? That makes no sense. In fact Arsenal are pretty much the only people who haven’t commented on it. Why are chelsea and their fans so fixated on Arsenal? I’m not even a Gooner but it’s so blatant.

I love it … but as an Arsenal fan, even I admit that Arsene has his fair share of excuses now and then (e.g., West Ham being ‘more ready’ than us).
