Chelsea produced an impressive display at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, running out 4-2 winners against Southampton and restoring their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points.
With Tottenham breathing down their necks, the Blues needed a good display against Saints and the hosts got off to the perfect start, with Eden Hazard opening the scoring on five minutes from a Diego Costa pass.
However, Chelsea suffered a scare on 24 minutes when former Blue Oriol Romeu netted from close-range.
Just before the break, the hosts regained the lead, with Gary Cahill bravely heading home as Costa attempted a spectacular overhead kick.
Soon after the break, Costa did get on the scoresheet, with the Spanish striker ending his seven-game goal-drought with a header from a Cesc Fabregas cross.
Antonio Conte’s side were now well in control of the game and went further ahead late on, with Costa again the scorer via a low shot after a superb passing move.
Another ex-Chelsea starlet, Ryan Bertrand, would score again for Southampton.
However, the west Londoners were well worth the win, which sees them go seven points clear of Tottenham, who face a tricky trip to Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
As for Southampton, they stay in ninth spot.
Surely Chelsea won’t collapse now?
