Crystal Palace’s appalling start to the new season finally ended at Selhurst Park on Saturday, with Roy Hodgson’s side deservedly beating Chelsea 2-1.

It took 11 minutes of the game for the Eagles to end a goal-drought which stretched all the way back to last season, with Cesar Azpilicueta deflecting in Yohan Cabaye’s effort.

However, Chelsea got themselves back on level terms soon after, with Tiemoue Bakayoko heading home a Cesc Fabregas corner.

Rather than wilt, the hosts continued to trouble Antonio Conte’s men, with Wilfried Zaha superb throughout.

Just before the break, Zaha himself put the hosts ahead once again via a fine solo effort.

Chelsea pushed for an equaliser in the second-half, with Fabregas hitting the bar and Charley Musonda failing to beat Julian Speroni in the Palace goal.

Despite the pressure, the Blues couldn’t find a leveller, with the Eagles holding on to finally put some points on the board.

After the game, Sky Sports made an almighty mess of Zaha’s name on the graphics during an interview, something ex-Palace winger Yannick Bolasie was quick to point out…

The long-awaited win sees Roy Hodgson’s charges finally get their season up and running.

As for the title-holders, they’ve now lost two consecutive league games, which leaves them in fifth place, a worrying nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
