Prior to the game, there was a mightly fine tribute to Chelsea legend Ray Wilkins, who passed away during the week.

The hosts took the lead on 36 minutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta scoring from an Alvaro Morata knock-down.

That goal was the seventh time this season the two Spaniards had combined for a Premier League goal, a joint-best in the top-flight this season.

The hosts looked to be headed for a welcome win when David Moyes decided to deploy sub Javier Hernandez on 70 minutes.

Just three minutes later, the Mexican would net his ninth goal against the Blues, firing home from a Marko Arnautovic cut-back.

The game would end all-square, with Antonio Conte and his side left to rue their wastefulness in front of goal.

Chelsea now find themselves 10 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, with their hopes of a Champions League berth for next season all but gone.

As for West Ham, thanks to Hernandez and a superb display from Joe Hart in goal, they secure a precious point which sees them in 14th place, six points above the drop-zone.
