Thibaut Courtois may well be on his way to Real Madrid this summer, with reports suggesting the Belgian number one is set to leave Chelsea for a fee of £31million in a four-year deal.
The 26-year-old helped Belgium to third place at the 2018 World Cup and has been a key performer for Chelsea over the last four seasons.
Prior to that, the gangly ‘keeper spent three years on loan with Atletico Madrid, and he now looks set to return to the Spanish capital, where his children currently live.
Now, new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui is eager for an upgrade on current ‘keeper Keylor Navas and Courtois fits the bill.
If the Belgian does make the move to the Bernabeu, the Blues have earmarked Roma and Brazil number one Alisson as their first choice replacement.
However, with Liverpool apparently now in the hot-seat to sign the Brazilian, new Cheslea boss Maurizio Sarri may well end up with Petr Cech instead, with the former Blues legend tipped to return to Stamford Bridge from Arsenal.
If Courtois does indeed depart west London, Chelsea fans won’t be sated by the return of Cech. And with Eden Hazard also strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, it could be a painful summer for the west Londoners.
