 Another one bites the dust…

At this rate, the England side lining up against France on June 11th will be made up entirely of average Liverpool players. Coming in the wake of Jordan Henderson’s promotion to the senior squad courtesy of Frank Lampard’s injury, Henderson’s Liverpool team-mate Martin Kelly has now been called up to the 23 in place of Gary Cahill.

Chelsea star Cahill has been ruled out of the Euro Finals after fracturing his jaw (in two places) in the weekend’s friendly with Belgium. However, Cahill’s loss is Martin Kelly’s gain, with the inexperienced Liverpool full-back now joining up with Roy Hodgson’s side.

Cahill is the fourth England player forced to bow out of Hodgson’s squad with injury, following John Ruddy, Gareth Barry and Lampard. Indeed, add to that list the players KO’ed before the squad was announced – Kyle Walker, Michael Dawson, Chris Smalling, Jack Wilshere, Jack Rodwell, Tom Cleverley and Darren Bent and you have quite a decent crocked XI.

One wonders what Rio Ferdinand is thinking right now.

Note to Jay Spearing, Jon Flanagan, Raheem Sterling, Nathan Ecclestone and Jack Robinson – don’t book your summer holidays just yet.

Martin Kelly was ridiculous even as a back-up option. Day after day the Euro 2012 squad is turning into one filled with mediocre Liverpool garbage.

  2. ldx says:

    THERE NOT FUCKING AVERAGE

  3. Tom says:

    Racism or Liverpool bias?

  4. Guy says:

Enough of Rio, what about Micah Richards? Last I check he doesn’t have a back back and bum hamstring.

  5. Ben says:

take richards and then have him as a back up right back and jones center not fucking rocket science and why are we not addressing lack of center mids. I mean id stick milner there as he is not good enough on the wing in fact his a fucking tank give scholes a fucking bell.

  6. Sharky says:

I bet Micah Richards feels stupid for refusing to be on the back up list now. To be fair tho Kelly had a good season and is a centre back by trade.

  7. Mr. Chopper says:

Players who turned down a place aren’t going to get offered a place again now, are they?

  8. Dave says:

The amount of shite in this squad now is so depressing… ffs

  9. Arson Wenger says:

It seems to me that i’m the only one here who thinks Kelly is a decent enough option.

  10. abhi_gooner says:

England has probably the most pessimistic fans in the world.

Ah yes, because the Golden Generation of footballers has done so well at tournaments in the past. I say give the youngsters a chance and snub all the old players, including the stars. It won’t hurt England’s chances because one way or another, they’re not going to win it. At least this way, it’ll show that the manager has balls and is willing to do what he thinks is right.

Than again the FA controls the team.

  12. SL says:

Its the worst England team in my lifetime cause by players refusing to be backups and choosing the racist over better options.

At least the players wont come back knackered after just 3 games.

  13. Diedrich says:

    Lets all laugh at england…HAHAHAHAHA!!

  14. Bazza Stamford says:

I reckons Joe Hart should be dropped for France game so he can have a long hard fink about wot hes just done. Dirty mug. Cost us a good player, european champion. Gutted.

  15. el_gilbo says:

At least the LFC players didnt turn their backs to there country!
Good luck to all the boys!

This is what Rio is thinking right now: “Rio Ferdinand ‏@rioferdy5 What reasons?????!!!”. From his Twitter.

  17. Toz says:

    @SL

So it’ll be the same as every other tournament. Get knocked out almost instantly.

    @plops

Rio is a bell-end, ’nuff said.

Fewer chiefs and more indians sounds like a good combination. My predo is that this squad will actually do great getting to the final 8 (by listening to the coaches and playing the game simply and effectively), then when the press and the country climb on the bandwagon they will succumb to the hype and fall apart. Rooney, Gerrard, Cole, and Hart have enough class to carry whoever fills in the other slots and perhaps this lot can overcome the paralysis of too many skilled players but no one taking the bottle.

I mean how many times have you moaned at the screen for someone to take a chance and run at the opposition and to stop sitting back so as not to be the one who lost the match? As for the youngsters coming into the side…expectations have never been lower: roll the dice now and rule some players in or out for the WC 2014. Nothing is gained from Rio, Scholes, whatever oldster you want, pitching in for a month now. If you think that the best/healthy English side is going to beat the Dutch, Spanish, or German side in this Euro I have some swampland in Florida you might be interested in.
