Sunderland 1-0 Everton – Premier League – 20th April 2013

Paulo Di Canio has done it again. After steering his new side to a fantastic 3-0 win away at Newcastle last week, the Italian coach oversaw a superb, hard-fought win against Champions League hopefuls Everton.

Stephane Sessegnon was the goal-hero for the home side, firing home on the stroke of half-time after a mistake from Leighton Baines.

David Moyes threw on Nikica Jelavic after the break, but despite having much of the possession, the Merseysiders could get that vital goal.

The result sees Everton now five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, having played two games more, while a resurgent, re-energised Sunderland go six point clear of the drop-zone.
