Hull City 2-0 Everton – Premier League – 1st January 2015
Everton’s poor season continued with their fourth defeat in a row, this time going down 2-0 away to Hull.
The Tigers were the better side throughout and took the lead just after the half-hour mark, courtesy of an Ahmed Elmohamady header. The hosts then doubled their advantage just before the break when former-Everton man Nikica Jelavic smartly lobbing Joel Robles in the Toffees’ goal. At the re-start, Roberto Martinez sent on Romelu Lukaku and Bryan Oviedo and the Toffees did improve but ultimately they couldn’t find that all-important goal. Indeed, their day went from bad to worse late on with the sending off of centre-half Antolin Alcaraz.
Hull’s victory sees them in 15th place, two points clear of the drop-zone while Everton are now 13th, just two points better off than the Tigers.
