There were joyous scenes on the Soccer Saturday panel yesterday when noted football philosopher Paul Merson was asked to assess Everton’s ridiculously pourous defence.
What followed was an absolute smasher of a rant, Merson getting increasingly fraught as he went to town on John Stones’ lack of positional wherewithal – including a reference to “Men In Black” chucked in from out of nowhere.

Perhaps the most confusing thing is that we agree with 100% of what Merse was garbling on about.
Rather than the ‘cool Dad’ approach favoured by Roberto Martinez, Stones needs intensive defensive coaching like there’s no tomorrow.
