A morale-boosting win for Everton, and David Moyes can thank 18-year-old Jack Rodwell, who gave perhaps his best performance for the club, and on his European debut. He scored with two long-range shots, the second being an abosolute screamer. This boy will go far. As far as South Africa? It’s possible, if unlikely.
Joleon Lescott, dropped by Moyes, was not missed much at the back, although there were a couple of shaky moments for Everton’s defence. The visitors had a couple of decent penalty shouts, but as the away side and underdog it’s no surprise that they didn’t get them.

Another major plus for Everton was the performance of Louis Saha. Mr Glass scored two goals and managed to survive for 79 minutes( when he was replaced by Jo), without falling to bits. A minor miracle.
