Everybody’s favourite non-league vanity project, Billericay Town, went swaggering into an FA Cup first round fixture against fellow Isthmian Premier Division side Leatherhead on Thursday evening, coursing with the confidence instilled in them by their inspirational owner/manager Glenn Tamplin.

Indeed, in the days leading up to the match,Β Tamplin was full of it on social media, imploring fans to set their Sky boxes to record what was certain to be a momentous step up in his side’s ascension to greatness…

Those who did set their boxes to record the match were subsequently treated to a comprehensive 3-1 away win for Leatherhead, live on BT Sport, over Tamplin’s side – which boasts several ex-Premier League names, a disproportionately swollen wage bill and a series of godawful ‘motivational’ muralsΒ to help fire them up.

After the final whistle, the victorious Tanners celebrated with a wonderfully acerbic sing-song in their dressing room: a rousing rendition of ‘The World’s Greatest’ by R Kelly…

If you don’t get the reference, please allow us to enlighten you further. It’s basically Tamplin trolling of the highest order.

We only hope and pray that the Billericay team heard the whole thing through the changing room wall.

Amazingly, having tweeted endless the day before the game, the shock of defeat seems to have made Tamplin forget his Twitter password since.

Thought he might at least have congratulated Leatherhead and wished them well in the next round, you know, the standard courtesy that, however disappointed, a defeated cup side offers to the victors.

As for the match, it wasn’t even close :-)
