“Carling or Becks? Carling…or Becks? Budweiser!”

FIFA, eh? Watching over us all with ever-loving grace. Fighting the good fight. Tackling the real issues that threaten to undermine our beloved game with feverish haste and ruthless efficiency. Racism? Dealt with. Corruption? Ditto. Homophobia? Eradicated. Gifting World Cup hosting rights to very rich countries with ‘questionable’ human rights records? Not an issue.

Now some bozos in Brazil have made it illegal for beer to be sold in football stadiums and those very same bozos are pleading that the law be kept in place for the 2014 World Cup due to concerns over safety.

Thankfully FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has, metaphorically of course, kicked them square in the nuts:

“Alcoholic drinks are part of the World Cup, so we’re going to have them. Excuse me if I sound a bit arrogant but that’s something we won’t negotiate.

“The fact that we have the right to sell beer has to be a part of the law.”

Hear that? It’s non-negotiable punks!

FIFA’s official partners for the 2014 World Cup? Sony, Visa, Coca-Cola, Adidas, Hyundai and…Budweiser.

What’s going to happen when the World Cup takes place in QATAR?!

  2. Archbishop Betty Snagcock says:

i went to South Africa, the “official partner’s” beer tasted like pissy water and costed about £5.00 a bottle, at two of the games i went to there were south africans selling plastic bottles of wine for the equivalent of 2 quid, far nicer

  3. Stu says:

@CF4 I wondered the same about Qatar. Seems they will be selling alcohol in places: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar_2022_FIFA_World_Cup_bid#Alcohol

  4. Tosser says:

It is sickening when foreigners come into your country and force their cultural norms on you. Whether it is their using their language or their drink of choice – clearly globalisation sucks.

  5. STFC says:

As someone with plans to go to the 2014 world cup…..this is an absolute triumph for humanity, bettered only by the lunar landings and xbox.

  6. dc says:

    STSC,
I wouldn’t call it a triumph for humanity when the only beer available to drink is going to be piss nasty Budweiser

  7. Ross says:

    @ STFC….

I too share your views on the triumphs that have taken place. I am heading out to Brazil but would of considered alternative plans if no alcohol was on sale!! ha

    Bring it on

  8. SL says:

Look who their main sponsor is, they have to make money selling £6 beers at the game.
Mind you, you cant really call it beer.

The sooner Blatter dies, the better. Lets face it, hes not going to leave of his own accord.

  9. Tom Jones says:

    Just say no to alcohol.

  10. Mr. Sparkle says:

Who fucking cares, the world ends in twelve months from now…

  11. McRillen says:

Whats the similarity between Budweiser and making sweet love in a boat?… fucking close to water

  12. Mary Poopins says:

Qatar is going to be a cracking challenge for FIFA in overturning thousands of years of cultural stupidity. No booze, no hotties in skimpy clothes, no searing, no having a massive pash in public, no scratching your bollocks… I wonder who’s gonna be the ‘daddy’ in that relationship??

  13. Special Ed says:

    Absolute triumph!

  14. Tellitasitis says:

@Mr. Sparkle, hahaha…yeah, spot on. However, as a back-up plan, just in case the world doesn’t end, I reckon it will be a great pi$$ing contest between FIFA & the Qatar government over allowing fun at the 2022 world cup.

  15. The Truth says:

Budweiser is owned by AB INBEV, which was originally a Brazilian based company that also has a close monopoly on the beer market in Brazil. Expect them to throw tens of millions at it in Brazil and at FIFA. Money talks, the Brazilian government is just holding out to screw the most from Budweiser. There will be Bud, Brahma and Antarctica on sale and it will be a fiver a bottle !!!! And there will be lots of cronies in FIFA and the Brazil government trousering it in the meantime

  16. shay says:

Even Americans don’t want to drink budweiser. Gross!

  17. Redskywalker7 says:

Fick Fufa. Football is run by Nazis

  18. Golfwang says:

Why do you guys always refer to our beer as piss? It’s not that bad, who cares if it’s a little watery, it’ll get you drunk. jesus, what a bunch of snobs.
