A Brazilian fan has died after being hit by a ceramic toilet bowl thrown from the upper tier of the stadium at the end of Friday evening’s Brazilian second division game between Santa Cruz and Parana.

The Parana fan, later identified as Paulo Ricardo Gomes da Silva, was reportedly struck when a faction of Santa Cruz fans ripped the facilities out of their stadium in Recife and began bombarding the visiting fans below them.

According to the BBC, the Brazilian FA have decided to ban matches from being played at Santa Cruz’s Estadio do Arruda until a court of sport has ruled on the case.

Police had apparently told the Parana fans to leave the stadium earlier in a bid to avoid trouble, but local reports suggest that they were ambushed by a small group of Santa Cruz hoodlums while attempting to leave the stadium after the game.

This, sadly, isn’t the first time that santa Cruz fans have chucked toilets at away fans, with supporters of local rivals Sport given the same treatment earlier this year.
