Busquets Charged Over ‘Monkey’ Taunt, Barcelona Claim They Wouldn’t Report Real Madrid

By Chris Wright

As you may have seen yesterday evening, UEFA have decided to open a disciplinary case against Sergio Busquets after the Barcelona scheister appeared to racially abuse Real Madrid full-back Marcelo during the first leg of the Champions League semi-final between the two sides – charges which mean that, if found guilty, Mr Biscuits will miss the final on May 28th.

Busquets has since defended himself, claiming that rather than muttering ‘mono mono’ (‘monkey monkey’) to Marcelo from behind his cupped hand, he actually said ‘mucho morro’ – which translates as ‘some nerve’.

Anyway, Barca vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu is up in arms about the matter at hand – not about the actual alleged racism itself, oh no, but about the fact that Real Madrid had the low-down temerity to report it to UEFA, telling RNE:

“We would not do this. We don’t do it and we won’t do it. We respect what happens on the field and we won’t get involved with what happens on the field.”

“It appears that Madrid is not doing this and they are losing this señorío (distinguished air) that the club has always had. I don’t want to talk about the issues of a club that is not mine, but I will just say that we would never do it because it appears to be an exaggeration to us.”

“I don’t understand why Busquets should miss out on the final.  That’s something that surprises us a lot.  The referee is the one who makes decisions on the field.  Depriving Busquets, who is having a sensational season, of the final seems very excessive to us and we’re very upset.

“I don’t know what Señor Busquets said and what they were talking about, but they are things that happen all the time in football.  If we have to put a camera on each player to follow what they say or do, this will become a circus.  Football has triumphed, along with fair play.”

Remember kids: Never report racism, you don’t want to lose your señorío.

“I don’t understand why Busquets should miss out on the final.” Perhaps because Biscuits has cheated so much that he should be suspended indefnitely…

Sergio Biscuits… crumbles in the box.

He’s had this coming for a long time. Overrated.

  3. seagulls says:

good, wanker. now lets hope man u beat em so karma will be done for all that cheating

  4. tapioca says:

Well “Some Nerve!” is exactly the kind of controversial phrase you’d bother to cover your mouth when saying, so I’m certainly going to take him at his word. After all, it’s not like Busquets has a history of being an obnoxious, cheating little sh*t. Oh, wait…

  5. Jakobsen says:

Tapioca -> Exactly, since he does the occasional dive, he must be a racist too! If he said anything remotely racist, wouldn’t you expect Marcelo to respond? He does nothing.. And don’t say that Marcelo is above that, because we all remember his stomp on Pedro.

    FC Barcelona:

    “Promote UNICEF, Support Racism”

    F@CK YEAH !!!

Let’s win the final against them, those all-time low cheating b@stards !!!

  7. Montesquieu says:

Ironic, considering how much Barcelona has always made themselves out a victim of Spanish prejudice against Catalonians, and how their diversity has seen players on their team offended and attacked for the colour of their skin.

  8. quamespanky says:

Uefa should sit & access the case very well but busquet can’t miss the grand finale @ wembley…

@Jakobsen: I was actually saying that Busquets is a proven liar/fabricator – so I don’t believe his story – and that you wouldn’t bother to hide your lips when you’re complimenting someone on the beautiful almond shape of their eyes. You wouldn’t even bother when telling the other guy how much you enjoyed having sex with his mother, because you don’t get match bans for that. And not every player reacts like Eric Cantona – even Eric Cantona “let it go” more often than not.

Is Bartomeu actually condoning racist abuse on the pitch?

It probably does happen quite a lot, just as it unfortunatley does in other workplaces as well, but that doesnt make it right. Pretty sure that if he did that in any other job he would be out the door. Then again Ahsley Cole did shoot the work experience kid.

Considering their holier than thou attitude to football, Barca are making a few enemies.

    *Guh*
Will all of this please end? My gosh reading this sounds like my two sons going at it (“well he called me this” and “but he said this to me first”). So, Busquets is a cheat. Ok great, carry on. This happens in every league around the world.

To me, the story that SHOULD be getting headlines is about the escalating attacks on Neil Lennon. I mean seriously, its like just because he wasn’t hurt it seems everyone carries on like normal. And maybe that is normal, I don’t know. Paraphrasing from Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer: I’m just a simple American, your world frightens and confuses me.

  12. Rich says:

well after barca had a “racism release” clause in villa’s contract and saying they would do it in all future contracts it’ll be interesting if they decide to do it with busquets

    @Michael D
Sorry, but to most of us racism is actually a very serious matter and this instance has been very much on the forefront of football fans around the world – even in the U.S.
    @ Jakobsen
So because Marcelo was mature enough to go on with the match as to avoid getting red carded and becoming a detriment to his team – well, then it didn’t happen? Marcelo gets racist taunts from the crowds in the stands all the time. Did it ever occur to you that sadly enough he’s probably used to it?

  14. karleos says:

Okay racist taunt aside if Busquets did in fact say “Some Nerve” he has some nerve ever using this phrase. I hardly feel Sergifall has the right to have us believe that he’s ever been hard done by with all his antics.

  15. Tom Jones says:

So what Barcelona’s vice president is sayin that racism doesn’t bother him? What a tool.

  16. Jimbo says:

what the hell, they wouldn’t report racist abuse?! disgusting, sows you the classlessness of barcelona fc

  17. Jimbo says:

    @michael
this isn’t about him being a cheat. he’s a racist pig – just how is that acceptable in modern day football?! the cheating is another issue we shouldn’t put up with but thats uefa… putting up with racism though, really? maybe you live in such a primitive attitude but most of us don’t want that in our football

  18. alex says:

Barcelona is gross to suggest that they would let racism just go ahead without punishment. If they think that Busquets is clear, they should realize that FIFA’s motto used to be Say no to Racism….

  19. tomas says:

    fucking barcelona designed for fags

  20. Kyle says:

    This is pretty simple:

Who the fuck covers their mouth to say “some nerve”? No one.

  21. Jessie Jackson says:

“We would not do this(report racial abuse)…We respect what happens on the field”

    Ok Barca.

  22. Calski says:

If and UEFA genuinely wanted to make a stand against Racism they should give Busquets a season long ban from European football. This may sound harsh but If they are wanting to be taking seriously, in regard to stomping out racism in football, I believe it’s necessary.

  23. L says:

I don’t understand how people are seeing this and saying, “He deserves to be punished! Teach that cheater a lesson!”
This is bigger than diving. How is diving a more punishable offence than racially abusing another player?

  24. Toji says:

He said “they are things that happen all the time in football” and hr “respects what happens on the football field”, so he is acknowledging the problem but is denying to solve it. Im sure Barca must be part of Kick it out/Show racism the red card, well isn’t this doing the opposite. Ignoring things like this will lead to racism staying as common place on the pitch.

It’s disgusting that he believes this is okay. He needs to put the Barca vs Real handbags aside for a minute and look at the situation as a bigger picture, a bigger problem. Then maybe he won’t be so ignorant and realise that Sergio has gone beyond the levels of taunting that are acceptable on a football pitch.

  25. Jay says:

So glad he is missing the final. Punishment should be longer for the racist bigot. Then he needs some education after.

  26. Rich says:

make him live with monkeys for a year…
