‘There Are Worse Things To Complain About’ – Daily Mail Tackle Racism Issue, Tell Black Players To Put Up With It

Whether or not John Terry is guilty of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, the issue of racism is still present in football, albeit at a thankfully far lower level (in the UK) than in years gone by.

Now the Daily Mail, purveyor of “common sense”, has waded into the debate, courtesy of a piece by Steve Doughty. Please read it, I urge you.

Doughty seems to think that black players should be thankful for the huge strides made in tacking racism in the game and therefore, just shut up and deal with what little racism remains as there are “worse things to complain about”.

One imagines that, back in the 1980s, Doughty would have similarly told black players to suck it up and deal with the racism they were receiving as at least they were now free/allowed to vote/sit at the front of the bus, etc, etc.

    In fairness,there is a difference between actual racism and winding someone up based on their religion,looks,race,sexuality etc…there has to be room in the game for sledging and insults as a legitimate way to get your opponent to do something stupid.
    Not that i’m condoning racism,you just have to draw a line somewhere,people have to stop being so sensitive.

    What a knob. Ignorance at its finest.

    Please DON’T follow the link and go to the article. If you do, you are simply adding to the Daily Mail’s site traffic and boosting their potential advertising revenue.
    Just take it as read that it is full of the usual ignorant rubbish.
    Reading the article is putting money in Paul Dacre’s pocket. Don’t do it.

    Good to call attention to that utter rubbish. He can go f himself.

    @Petty Pete: Great point. Such a scare mongering publication that Daily Fail. Really despise a person unnaturally when I see someone reading a copy…

  10. Mark says:

    O calm down… these guys are fucking football players, if a nurse or teacher is being mildly racially abused you have to take action but I would gladly be pelted with faeces and have all manner of shit said to me for 100k a week…

  11. Wedge says:

    Any one who looks at that garbage should be taken outside and kicked in. The worst paper in the world. A rag full of unsupported scaremongering and racism. Disgusting.
    Mark. You’re full of shit too. No one should have to put with any form of racist abuse. Doesn’t matter if you earn £1 a week or hundreds of thousands. It’s 2011 and there’s simply no excuse for ignorance or hate based on skin colour (or religion for that matter). You’re talking utter shite and should be ashamed.

    terry should strip off the england captaincy!

  13. James Warren says:

    What a cunt.

  14. Boris says:

    @Mark
    Is racism acceptable if the victim receives compensation? You’re a bigot.

  15. VAns says:

    Ridiculous story, typical english media sabotaging there own team. He should clear his name then retire from international football just to show you what you missing. He has given you everything and all you have given him is shit, he owes you nothing. Tell me another country in the world that abused there national captain after all he is is dedicated to you. I cannot understand the attitude of the English public towards him, its fucking mental. If my national team captain was being accused of this (with pretty much no evidence except some video (that doesn’t even have anton in it) in which he could be saying anything i.e. blind) we would stick behind him all the way until he is proven guilty. Unbelievable.

  16. Fredmeister says:

    @VAns

    I agree with you to the extent that the media are quick to attack the England team, but John Terry is a grade A twat and this would be completely in line with the other things that he has done in his time as a pro (i.e shag his mates missus, sell unauthorised ‘tours’ of the ground to line his own pockets, undermine his manager and team mates at a world cup in press conferences, etc)

    He may well be innocent of this, but players of any race or religion should never have to put up with disgusting behaviour at any level.

  17. Ash says:

    Actually its true. Black people go about looking for it too much and there are actually more important things.

  18. big mean bunny says:

    not sure whats worse, the article or the face that something makes comments about a person’s race are acceptable as a wind up/sledging!

  19. Mark's Mate says:

    Mark I’m wid youse mate. We’ll split the 100k a week and they can call us what the *^@^ they like

  20. Mark Stevens says:
