Fulham 1-4 Sunderland – Premier League – 11th January 2014
A superb hat-trick from Adam Johnson helped secure a precious victory for strugglers Sunderland at Craven Cottage. Johnson’s three goals included a superb curling free-kick and a penalty as the former England man shined for the Black Cats. Steve Sidwell had levelled the scores after Johnson’s opener, but Ki put the visitors ahead again before Johnson netted another two. The Whites had had a number of great chances early on, but their failure to be more clinical was ultimately punished by Gus Poyet’s side. Sunderland move off the bottom, albeit only courtesy of goal difference, while Fulham are now just a point away from the bottom three.
