EA Sports may be able to individually render each one of Lee Cattermole’s eyelashes these days, but there was a time, not so very long ago, when the FIFA games were truly entrenched in the pursuit of flawless realism.

We’re harking back to the turn of the millennium here, when EA released what was perhaps the last truly lifelike football video game – FIFA 2000.

While the blocky graphics may be a little crude by modern standards, the gameplay was the nearest we’ve come to capturing the cut and thrust of a real football match, what with the inclusion of hyper-realistic alien abductions and lightning strikes and all…
