Brazil Soccer Copa Libertadores

Sao Paulo beat Cruzeiro 2-0 as the top two sides met in the Brazilian Campeonato on Sunday evening, with a familiar name gracing the score-sheet once again – that of veteran goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, who stuck away his 120th career goal having opened the scoring with a 36th-minute penalty…

The 41-year-old ‘keeper – who, in time-honoured South American tradition, operates as Sao Paulo’s set-piece expert – broke the goalkeeper’s scoring record years ago and just keeps adding to his total at a scarcely believable rate.

Having played well over 1,000 games for Sao Paulo in his one-club career since making his professional debut in 1993, Ceni has already announced that he plans to retire at the end of the current Brazilian season – though we wouldn’t bet against him passing the 150-goal mark before then!
