Several months after first meeting him for the first time in Barcelona, Lionel Messi promised 10-year old double-amputee (and bona fide, card-carrying ‘Messi superfan’ – his prosthetic legs are inscribed with Messi’s name and shirt number) Soufian that he would dedicate a goal to him if when he scored the day before Barca tonked Osasuna 8-0 on Saturday – and the man kept his word, patting his legs after prodding home his first goal of the evening…

    Messi is one of the few players that I’d take out for a beer.

    He’s an alright lad, down to earth. Sure, his growth problem can’t be compared to that of a child who has prosthetics, but I think the growth problem he suffered from when he was a child. Gives him the ability to understand how hard life is because of such a problem.
