Just when you think you’ve heard it all, a professional footballer goes and adds another instant classic to the ever-lengthening list of weird and wonderful (and often fairly silly) football injuries.

This time we focus on the plight of Girondin de Bordeaux midfielder Younousse Sankhare, who hasn’t played for the Ligue 1 side since early February.

The precise nature of Sankhare’s absence hadn’t really been confirmed until the weekend, when the Sud Ouest newspaper claimed to have discovered the truth.

Indeed, the 29-year-old Senegal international has reportedly missed Bordeaux’s last three fixtures after suffering “complications and a fever” brought on by a beard hair implant procedure.

It’s also speculated that he is likely to miss this Tuesday’s game against Montpellier too, as his he still isn’t fully recovered despite spending the best part of a month on the sidelines.

Excess disposable income + far too much free time + the brain of a professional footballer = precisely this, over and over again.
