Three cheers for Daniel Agger, who has once again proved that almost all Scandinavians are awesome by stumping up the cash to send the Danish homeless national side to the Homeless World Cup in Chile.

The eight members of the Danish side were 20,000 krone (around £2,100) short of the required funds to get themselves to Santiago for the tournament, with Agger hearing of their struggles and agreeing to top up their kitty from his own pocket.

Frits Ahlstrøm, a member of the Ombold charity who use football as a means of helping disadvantaged people re-engage with society, told TV2:

“I talked to [Agger] and told him that we still had 20,000 krone to go, and he replied without hesitation: “I’ll give it you.”

“There is no substitute for class and Daniel has it on as well as off the field – as a player and a person.”

Agger’s generosity mirrors that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who recently forked out £30,000 to pay for the Swedish disabled national team’s flights to their World Cup in Brazil having initially only been asked to provide a signed shirt they could raffle off.

Top stuff.

Pardon me for the scepticism, but wouldn’t all that krone be better spent buying them some form of accommodation? Rather than a flight to the other side of the world and god knows how much in living expenses.
