Women’s football certainly seems to be the place for long-range wonder-strikes these days. Coming not long after Carli Lloyd’s superb WWC final goal for the USA against Japan, England U19 star Natasha Flint bagged a long-range cracker of her own at the weekend.

The goal came during England’s 3-1 defeat to Spain in the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship, with Manchester City’s Flint catching the Spanish ‘keeper off her line with a super 50(ish) yard strike. Pretty decent stuff from the 18-year-old attacking midfielder!

Alas, the defeat against Spain, coming on the back of 2-1 loss to Germany in the opening game sees England out of the running for a semi-final berth, with just one game remaining.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but all these long-range punts leave me nonplussed. I don’t give a shit who scores them, young or old / male or female.

What about Trevor Sinclair’s overhead kick against Barnsley?

What about Stephanie Roche’s Puskas award nominated stunner?

What about that Arsenal team goal against Norwich a few years back?

Proper, class goals where skill and not just chance made them memorable.
