Currently nine goals into a sustained tilt at the Premier League’s consecutive scoring record, Jamie Vardy has reason to feel optimistic about his international aspirations.

Much like Leicester themselves, the nippy forward has (quite literally) come flying out of the traps this season, sitting pretty at the top of the goalscorer’s chart with his team just one point off the top of the table going into the mid-November international break. Everything in the garden is rosy.

Things are looking good on the international front too, with Vardy’s fairytale ascent from non-league football (and working part-time in a carbon fibre factory) to picking up his first England cap taking just five years.

That aforementioned bow came back in early June, when Vardy replaced Wayne Rooney for the final 15 minutes of a friendly against the Republic of Ireland.

Just a few weeks beforehand, Vardy and his fiancée Becky had sent out their ‘save the date’ wedding invitations – the big day scheduled for next June.

Alas, due to largely unpredicted circumstances, those plans have since had to be scuttled, as the man himself told the Daily Mail:

I was due to get married bang on the start of the Euros. The missus was on to me to move it.

I thought it was fine. Then we moved it just to be on the safe side after I had my first call-up.

Of course, rearranging an entire wedding doesn’t come without its pitfalls, as the Leicester man duly added:

It was on a weekend, it’s now a midweek, which is not ideal for guests, but is just one of those things.

May 25th is the new date, the week after the season finishes.

As the Mail explain, the switch was made “more in hope than expectation”, though given Vardy’s electric form (coupled with the ever-present dearth of English alternatives), we can only imagine that his place in Roy’s 23 is already nigh-on rubber stamped.
