Forget Jules Rimet, Michel Platini, Euro 1984, Zinedine Zidane and the 1998 World Cup, it is the one and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic himself who has put France on the footballing map. Well, that’s according to the modest man himself.

Ahead of Sweden’s European Championship play-off against Denmark at the weekend, the PSG striker spoke of his desire to take part in next year’s finals in France, saying;

I would love to play at the European Championship in France. I have played there for four years. I have put Sweden on the world map and now I have put France on the world map too.

As ludicrous as Zlatan’s theory is, you’ve got to applaud his chutzpah!

The 34-year-old and his team-mates host the Danes on Saturday in Stokholm, where he’ll go head to head with another uber-ego in the under-achieving form of Nicklas Bendtner. Should be a fascinating watch!
