Harry Redknapp has casually tossed his cloth barrow boy’s cap into the ring by saying that “of course” he’d be interested in becoming the new Scotland manager.

Previous incumbent Gordon Strachan was released back into the wild earlier this month after the Scots fell short in their attempts to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Redknapp himself was sacked as Birmingham City manager just a few weeks prior on the back of a run of six straight defeats.

That said, the 70-year-old is remaining chipper and, when asked by BBC Scotland about the prospect of him easing into Strachan’s breach, replied:

Of course. It must be a fantastic job to have. I think Gordon did what he could.

I must be truthful, I watched the Scotland [qualifying] games and not the England games, because there was nothing on the England games.

Those last two Scotland games, the win against Slovakia, the late goal, I kicked every ball that day.

Then I thought Scotland had a chance, and then 1-0 up in the second game (against Slovenia), it would’ve been a real great achievement to have qualified, but I think Gordon did what he could. It’s a difficult job.

I wouldn’t see myself having any chance of getting it, but it would be a great job for someone.

Hardly the most subtle of CV submissions, but Redknapp is reportedly up against some strong-ish contenders for the post, with David Moyes, Paul Lambert, Alex McLeish, Joe Jordan, Cesare Prandelli and even Sam Allardyce mentioned in passing – though the latter doesn’t appear overly keen.

As ever, time will tell.

Til then, ‘Arry still has his mobile cryptocurrency to be going on with…

As with all football articles these days, as soon as I read “Redknapp” (be it Senior or Junior) I just stop and move onto the next story…

‘arry should take a lower league job, show if he really has still got it.

Maybe league 1. If he keeps healthy he could have another 4-5 years left to prove himself once again.

I’m not even joking. It’d be a great way to retire, taking a team up to the PL one more time.

But of course he’s not going to be offered the Scotland job.

    It’s Lambert’s surely.
