When Dirk Kuyt retired from professional football back in May, he did so in the most glorious way possible.

Kuyt scored all three goals in the decisive victory that secured Feyenoord their first Eredivisie title in 18 years then called it quits a few days later while parading the big silver plate in front of several thousand jubilant fans in the town square.

However, it would appear that the 37-year-old just couldn’t stay away. Indeed, according to Dutch newspaper AD, Kuyt has agreed to come out of retirement as a favour to his old boyhood club, Quick Boys Katwijk.

Kuyt had been mucking in as assistant coach at the Derde Divisie side but has now signed on as a player until the end of the season as the club challenge for promotion.

Quick Boys are light in the striker department after Yordi Teijsse was suspended by the club after getting into a mid-match argument with… assistant coach Dirk Kuyt.

Omroep West add that there is a good chance the former Liverpool forward will be playing on Saturday, at home against FC Groningen.

Not a bad ringer to be able to bring in for the final push – the player who has scored more goals (147) and more hat-tricks (9) than any other Eredivisie player in the 21st century.
