England manager Fabio Capello has announced his 23-man for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro next Tuesday and, as per usual, there are a few curveballs to digest.

Congratulations must go to Bolton captain Kevin Davies on receiving his first ever call-up to the national team, after getting the nod ahead of Newcastle’s target man Andy Carroll.

The out-of-form and crocked Wayne Rooney has been given the green light to rejoin the squad, with Rio Ferdinand and John Terry also returning to the fold after stints on the sidelines.

The England squad in full:

Joe Hart (Man City), Ben Foster (Birmingham City), Robert Green (West Ham United)

Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Joleon Lescott (Man City), John Terry (Chelsea), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa)

Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Joe Cole (Liverpool), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham), Adam Johnson (Man City), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Man City), Ashley Young (Aston Villa)

Darren Bent (Sunderland), Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Kevin Davies (Bolton), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd)

Thoughts?

  1. Thrillson says:

So he’s (Kevin Davies) 33 now, will be 35 at Euros and 37 at the World Cup. Not really forward thinking is it.

  2. Chris says:

@Thrillson: I suppose not, but I imagine he’s getting called up on a one-match basis as cover for injuries.

  3. Dean says:

    Why isn’t Gary Cahill included?!

  4. seanBCFC says:

yeah Chris is right, it’s to replace defoe and while davies lacks international experience he is a decent player.

i wonder how many of these names will we go on to have more english sex scandals…

  5. dc says:

you could also call up andy carroll as cover for injuries. All due respect to KD, but he probably won’t play anyway

  6. Thrillson says:

    @DC

Exactly, he won’t play, so why not get Carroll involved in the set-up early doors, for when he might play in a year or so.

  7. Luke says:

KD will probably win more balls in the air that crouchy lol

  8. Binnsey says:

Happy for KD, a deserved national cap, especially when we hand them out regularly to players who don’t.

all the same, this is a very very disappointing squad.
    we will play;

hart, johnson, cole, terry, ferdinand, barry, gerrard, wright-phillips, lennon, crouch, rooney

you know, that tried and tested bunch…
for me, although our focus has to be the win, we really need to bring along those players who shall be representing us in 2/4 years.

hart, wilshere, coleman, carrol, a johnson, walcott, richards, rodwell, gosling etc…

i’m not saying play 11 u21’s but surround 4/5 of them with experience, and let see a new England.
what? too much like forward thinking???

  9. Trololololo says:

HAHAHAHA oh god England are so shit it’s hilarious… who’s next, Kevin Phillips?

  10. I feel stupid says:

    Why isn’t Lampard going

  11. Patrick says:

of what nationality is gabby agbonlahor?? just glad heskey’s name was not even rumoured to be in there

  12. Chris says:

@I feel stupid: Lampard is still recovering from hernia surgery.

@Patrick: Gabby is English (he has 3 caps), but is also injured.

  13. Iven says:

England gets not to build up a team for the future! Where are Parker, Jarvis, Cahill, Baines? Nevertheless, it should be possible to put away for the moving up generation Cancen!

  14. Mark Y says:

Can you blame Capello for not picking Cahill? He hasn’t played in weeks.

  15. Johnny_lad says:

Obviously, he should have chosen Carroll. I don’t understand why he picked Davies (this guy’s got no future, and no past either). Maybe Crapello is trying to make way for a Beckham come-back ? Only stupid people never change their mind after all

  16. bolton4 life says:

Kevin Davies puts up quality numbers on a shit team. if he does play and i will say if cuz im not a complete idiot but he will score its in his blood and he shouda got a chance years ago. GO BOLTON euros next year

  17. rafonex says:

this is supouse the true team of england:

    3-4-3

    paul robinson

    terry, rio ferdinand, carragher

joe cole, gerard, carrick, aron lennon

  18. Crazyfootyno1fan says:

  19. melvin coolage says:
