With his recent retirement fresh in mind, former Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has been remembering Ronaldo fondly – regaling Spanish newspaper AS with stories of the 1999 Copa America, in which the Selecao’s staff had to take special precautions to accomodate the striker’s personal fitness regime:

“Ronaldo was already overweight, and we explored every possible way of making him drop some pounds.

“The team doctor gave him medicine, Xenical, which was effective, but it also accelerated his bowel movements. So, in order to avoid any ‘incidents’ the player had to wear diapers, which embarrassed him.”

Thanks Vanderlei. Magical stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Seems like a certain Gary Lineker could have learned a few things about involuntary-poo decorum from our Ron.

I just looked up Xenical online and it’s basically that Alli stuff you can buy that absorbs the fat from your food so you lose weight faster. But it is also notorious for giving you awful diarriah so that makes sense. I guess more than anything I question the efficacy of losing a few lbs of cosmetic body fat would help you play football better, though. It seems to me the most important thing would be to actually get into proper shape, with the weightloss coming after that, rather than going the other way round.

This is just plain disrespectful. One of football’s greatest strikers made out to be a baby on his retirement. This is sickening.

@Sebastian. Yeah I agree, luxemburgo’s probably bitter because he was such a failing ballbag at real madrid…

You know what is more embarrassing than wearing adult diapers? Having some douchebag you used to work with tell the whole world about it years later. Nice. Someone really should kick Luxemburgo square in the jewels!

    Lol he craped himself.
